What is the prize for a sports event without a winner?
Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool held its annual Parent-Child Sports Day in an outdoor venue for the first time after the pandemic. Parents were there with their children at Yishun Stadium to participate in the sports event together. Although the children responded differently, some were excited and some were distracted, everyone enjoyed the parent-child bonding time and played hard together to complete each sport.
Preschool student: I have friends to play with. My brother too. Mom and dad are here with us.
Preschool student: (Who are here with you today?) Mommy and Daddy, (Was it fun?) Fun! (Do you want to play again?) No, I don't want.
Led by their teachers, the little ones waved to their parents seated in the audience as they walked into the venue, officially marking the start of the Great Love Preschool Parent-Child Sports Day at Yishun Stadium.
Despite the many challenges and the hot weather, the parents and children still had a great time working together to complete each sport.
Parent, Chong Pei Ling: We felt that the younger sister was especially happy because it was her first time seeing a sports event. As they both grew up amid the pandemic, I’m grateful that she could run with her friends on this sports day.
Parent, Gary Tan: It's a lot of fun today. I’m very happy because it's rare to have this kind of game for everyone to play together, and a time for parents to play and interact with their children.
Children who have graduated from preschool also came to participate in the event with their younger siblings. Parents also had the opportunity to spend more cosy time with their children.
Parent, Ong Tien Ling: It was very hot, but I was touched to see the children being involved in these activities. (Do you usually have less time to do this?) I usually work and drive my children to and from school, so it's very rare to have such an opportunity, and I can see that they have grown up.
Parent, Lee Aik Guan: It's very fun and I think it's great to be able to interact with my child. My second child will be participating next year. He will be in Primary 1 next year, but I will still bring him along to participate. Have to do this every year for sure.
At the end of the event, parents completed the relay race with their children cheering them on. Running under the blue sky and white clouds, the warm interactions between parents and children is the most beautiful medal for all.
