Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre Entrance Gallery Adds Uniqueness to the Centre

The Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre, which opened in September 2019, recently refurbished its entrance gallery area.

Many new exhibits were added to the gallery, including a model of the Da Ai Village. Behind the creation of this seemingly simple model is a group of well-meaning youths.

Volunteer, Fang Qiao: It's a bit excessive here, but it's just right over here.

Volunteer, Huang Hui: It’s so difficult!

How difficult is it to make a model?

Volunteer, Fang Qiao: The space in the middle is only one millimetre, and it is more difficult to leave it out.

From the choice of materials to the precise selection of dimensions, the process of creating the Da Ai Village model was a test of eyesight, meticulousness and patience. Only one person in the team has relevant experience, while the others were doing it for the first time.

Volunteer, Fang Qiao: The biggest challenge appeared in the beginning because we didn't have the specific proportions of the Da Ai Village, so we used the images on Google and Tzu Chi's old photos to gauge their approximate size.

Volunteer, Huang Hui: What we drew on the floor plan are lines, but the actual model, its materials, and some of the stickers used are all thick, so we have to take that into account.

Volunteer, Huang Hui: The first time it was pasted like this was because we didn't want it to have that crease. We want to emphasise on the beauty of the object, so we focus on the details.

It took about 40 hours to finish making

the model of Da Ai Village.

In the refurbishment of the entrance gallery area of the Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre, this Da Ai Village model will be one of the exhibits.

Project-in-charge, Tey Inn Ping: With this refurbishment, we hope that through more content, more physical exhibits and more interactive installations, people who come in can learn about Tzu Chi. Staff and volunteers have spent a lot of time preparing and producing all these, so I hope everyone can come in and have a look during their free time.
