The children want to "repay kindness" through a heartfelt graduation gift
"Repaying Kindness" is one of the songs of the "Profound Parental Love" musical performance. Not only is the sign language movement complicated, the lyrics are even more difficult for a six-year-old child to understand. Every year at the graduation ceremony, graduates of Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool will perform the song "Repaying Kindness". In order to express their gratitude to their parents for their upbringing, the children spent nearly a year familiarising and practising, overcoming various challenges along the way.
Carrying a parent on each shoulder, one is scraped, bloodied, and in pain. This repayment is still hardly adequate
During the rehearsal, every word is carefully practised, the children will perform the sign language interpretation of "Repaying Kindness" at the first graduation ceremony of their lives.
Not only do they have to memorise lyrics, but also the sign language movements and steps, for a 6-year-old, there are quite a few challenges to overcome.
Preschooler Sun Chuan Xun: I find it difficult to kneel down because we need to kneel down at the right words.
Preschooler Phang Yu Xin: When you kneel down, (the knee) hurts because the (floor) is (made of) wood.
Preschooler Kaira Ng: I find “Repaying Kindness” difficult, but I didn't give up, I just recited it sentence by sentence.
Preschool teacher, Huang Chia Lin: Because this song is quite long, and when doing (sign language), the movements are also very complicated. Practise slowly one by one, explain each line of (lyrics) to them, then tell them in simpler words using the story method.
It took nearly a year to familiarise and practise, just to tell the parents what is in their hearts.
Preschooler Zhang Yuanluo: The kindness of our parents is always remembered, we want to be grateful to them for giving us the best food, helping us to change clothes, bathe, and putting on socks, they are the ones who raised us since young.
Yishun Great Love Preschool Principal, Lim Lay Hong: After the children leave the Great Love Preschool, they will enter another chapter of their learning journey. We hope that the children will repay their parents with gratitude on this meaningful day.
