The antidote to life’s issues, have you found it?
After a gap of seven years, the Head of the Humanistic Culture Department at Taiwan’s Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology, Cheah Lee Hwa, returned to Singapore to give a talk about overcoming the negatives in life. Ms Cheah shared her own experiences about growing up and teaching, with her teachers from her student days also present to support her. The funny and humorous lecture was met with laughter and applause, and attendees were treated with useful life tips.
Cheah Lee Hwa: The daughter-in-law complained, she said I once asked her mother-in-law, I wanted to buy a few packets of noodles for supper, she was gesturing like this, then I brought back two packets, she scolded me for being stingy. I don't know how lazy you Taiwanese are, don't you have to use both hands to gesture six?
If there are toxins in the body, they can be controlled by a healthy diet and medication. But if life is full of toxins, how do you detoxify them? What is the remedy?

Cheah Lee Hwa: Your problem is often not the problem itself, but how you view the problem.
Member of public, Yang Haw: What she means is that you have to understand the reality of the matter before you pass judgement, don’t judge it hastily
Member of public, Du Jia Mei: Because when a person is feeling depressed, may be like she said, to detoxify some of the poison, detoxifying. Not saying that you will recover immediately like the pills you take, you may have to reintegrate again in your daily life, need to slowly absorb.
Member of public, Chang Ying Sheng: Instead of letting people feel your negative energy, why not convey some positive energy, right thinking, ideas and beliefs to others.
Ms Cheah shared her own experience about growing up and teaching, and teachers from her student days were also present to support her. The humorous talk with thought-provoking content resonated deeply with Ma Simeng, who is also working in the education sector.
Member of public, Ma Simeng: Children have a lot of imperfections in communication and cognition because they understand things from the perspective of children. We have to teach them according to their characteristics and show them what they have to do and which direction they should go.
The antidote to life is actually in the hands of each individual. If you apply it skilfully in your life, you can achieve a happy life.
