SEEN is helping seniors age actively and peacefully
It is projected that in the year 2030, one in four Singaporeans will be over 65 years old. In the face of an aging population, Tzu Chi Senior Engagement & Enabling Node (SEEN) has been committed to helping the elderly live a fulfilling life by providing various healthcare services to the community and actively organizing different activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.
The elderly living in this area would naturally come here whenever they encounter any major or minor issues in their daily lives.
Phua Puay Bin (SEEN’s regular visitor):They will explain to me in great detail and I learn slowly this way. This is a very convenient contact station.
Gan Geok Hong (SEEN’s regular visitor):Even when I do not need help understanding the content of any letter, I would still drop by to spend time here.
This Tzu Chi Senior Engagement & Enabling Node (SEEN) located within the HDB area is like a second home to the elderly.
As local population continues to age rapidly, Tzu Chi SEEN also works with community partners to provide various daily wellness services to safeguard the health of the elderly.
Eve Zhong (Manager, Community Care):It will be beneficial for seniors to benefit from social interaction, engagement and rapport building with peers, with our colleagues and through various activities and platforms to enrich their golden years.
Early this year, 70-year-old Wong Jui Teng was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which has seriously affected his mobility. Wong, who was initially a cheerful person became silent. But over here, he is not alone on his rehabilitation journey.
Wong Jui Teng (SEEN’s regular visitor):Due to a small age gap, everyone tries out this exercise to see how it works on different individuals. It is like a form of team spirit. There seems to be some improvement in fitness.
Wong Joo Kee (Wong Jui Teng’s sister):Now he is more cheerful. We are very happy.
Ng Lay Tin is another regular visitor of SEEN. Other than lunch time, she is usually found here.
Ng Lay Tin (SEEN’s regular visitor):This is my place. I like to drop by for a walk and make friends. The sisters here are very good people; we are just like a family.
Lim Hong Leng (Fitness Associate):We would monitor their attendance to see if they are physically alright or if they are facing any other problems.
However, the various preventive measures have restricted the staff in caring for the elderly.
Lim Hong Leng (Fitness Associate):We must also comply with the safety measures, so we would call the elderly. We would visit elderly who are sick or living alone but not more than 2 households per day. Personally seeing them to know that they are doing okay makes us feel more at ease.
