Picking up litter on Children's Day?
The first Friday of October is Children's Day in Singapore. Tzu Chi Great Love PreSchool took the children outdoors to spend a meaningful Children's Day by picking up litter and teaching them to protect the environment and the Earth.
Singapore, which is known for its neatness and cleanliness, has a lot of litter in some corners.
Preschooler, Phoon Yong Qing: Many people throw litter on the grass, trees, sea and sand. Sea and sand are also very dirty.
The first Friday in October is Children's Day in Singapore. Tzu Chi Great Love PreSchool brought the children out to pick up litter.
Preschooler: (What litter did you pick up just now?) Tissue.
Preschooler, Jacob Hu: I picked up plastic bottles.
Preschooler, Wong Pei Xian: Because a lot of rubbish on the planet, we must pick up the rubbish and throw it in the dustbin.
Preschool teacher, Yolanda: We will not have lavish parties or celebrations in school. Instead, we need to do something to show some love and care for the environment. I think that’s one of the important values that children need to learn.
On Children's Day, there might not be snacks and balloons, but there are sweat and determination to protect the environment.
Preschooler, Chai Jiew Kah: Because we need to protect the Earth
Preschooler, Gabriel Tan Chek Hing: We don't like dirtiness, we have to pick it up or it will stink
Preschooler, Keigan Wong Si Han: Because I want a clean world.
Preschool teacher, Billy: I hope that this will be meaningful for them and memorable for them, it’s not the usual Children’s Day celebration, children doing something for the environment.
Small hands can also protect the Earth. This Children's Day has a special meaning.
