Our yearly Spring Festival appointment!
As the Lunar New Year approaches, Tzu Chi Singapore resumed its physical Spring Festival distribution event after two years. Several innovative adjustments were made this year to give participants a different New Year celebration experience.
The scene was filled with a strong Spring Festival atmosphere. Tzu Chi care recipients brought along their family members to celebrate the Lunar New Year in advance with volunteers.
Participant, Wong Geok Hong: It's my first time playing (plum-blowing art). It's fun, and I'm excited to be able to participate in such an activity.
Participant, Tan Soon Heng: It's quite lively, because I (usually) go out less, so it’s good that there are such activities.
Tzu Chi volunteer: Look here, smile.
Participant, Eileen Wong: We have not taken a photo for decades. It's a great privilege to be able take this family portrait today.
Participant, Gan Ah Chap: It really brings nostalgic memory of my young days when I was attending the school fun fair.
Tzu Chi volunteer: Stay healthy.
Participant, Gan Ah Chap: Gong Xi Fa Cai.
Tzu Chi Singapore’s physical Spring Festival distribution event was finally back onsite after two years. This was the first time the elements of a fun fair were added to the event.
Social Service Assistant, Jong Pei Ching: After the pandemic, this is the first time we are gathering with our care recipients physically. So, we decided to set up booths in the form of a fun fair to enable us to have closer interactions with them.
Ohno Eli, who likes staying at home, has never missed a Spring Festival distribution in the past ten years because this day of reunion is of extraordinary significance to her.
Participant, Ohno Eli: I like this day very much. The volunteers always talk about going back to parent’s home, (today) I am back to my “parents’ home”. I used to have low self-esteem, (fortunately) these volunteers would visit me every month. Sometimes I would be very negative and have a very bad mood. They could tell, and they would comfort me warmly. It can be said that for more than 10 years, I have been accompanied by Tzu Chi volunteers, giving me the opportunity to be the person I am today.
Tzu Chi volunteer: Happy New Year.
While celebrating the festive season, everyone did not forget to do good deeds to keep the love going.
