Every year in May, the Tzu Chi Parent-Child Bonding Class in Singapore will organise the Thanksgiving and Filial Piety activity, with the same objective each year to guide children to be filial and grateful. At the same time, it also provides the parents a platform to witness the growth of their children and the effectiveness of humanistic education.

Sitting or standing is uncomfortable because this ball on the body is a bother!

This is an experiential lesson designed by the volunteers for the children in the Parent-Child Bonding Class during the Filial Piety Month of May, to help them understand the difficulties of their mothers’ pregnancy and teach them to express their gratitude by decorating a beautiful flower for their parents.

Mothers and children who were participating in the warm and solemn ceremony for the first time inevitably felt nervous, but their hearts were still warmed.

Parent-Child Bonding Class’s parent Helen Wen: The tea ceremony was a bit messy, it turned out that we couldn't drink the tea yet, but we had already finished it. But him serving tea was already very impressive.

Parent-Child Bonding Class’s parent Mdm Low: This is the second year I have attended the Parents’ Day activity. The first year I attended, I went back feeling excited that my grandson had learnt to serve tea, feed himself and learnt to be filial to his elders, which was great. For this year which is the second year, there was even more progress and I learnt even more. I feel that I have gained a lot from coming to Tzu Chi and I am grateful that Tzu Chi has taught my grandson so well.

Parent-Child Bonding Class’s parent Lim Gek Hwang: Growing up in an educational environment like this, the children are more peaceful, less vain and compare less.

The most touching thing for parents is not the fragrance of tea or flowers but seeing their children’s growth under the influence of humanistic education.
