It's 3pm, want a cup of coffee?
The construction of Tzu Chi's first dialysis centre in Singapore began in March this year. Since end June, volunteers have been visiting the construction site once a week to care for the workers. Not only did they bake cakes and prepare drinks, they also set up a small pantry at the site, allowing the workers to get their own drinks on weekdays. The volunteers also introduced Tzu Chi to the workers, who also willingly received the bamboo banks, enabling the cycle of love to continue.
Every Wednesday at 3pm, Tzu Chi volunteers would visit the dialysis centre, which is still under construction, and invite the busy workers to take a break.
Tzu Chi volunteer, Tan Seok Kee: Brother, come over for coffee later
Tzu Chi volunteer, Tan Seok Kee: I would ask them to come and have some tea, one of the workers would ask if they were for the people in the meeting, I said no, this is to express our gratitude to them, at first they saw us as strangers, but no longer now, when we come, they would still stand beside us and talk to us, it is touching.
The pastries were all handmade by the volunteers. Regardless of the number of workers present at the construction site, the volunteers remained as eager to serve them.
Worker, Diao Yu Lin: It was very nice and heartwarming, I have never come across such a thing in Singapore
Worker, Mainuddin: Very good, very nice, the food very nice, the people also very nice
Tzu Chi volunteer, Tan Seok Kee: A place like this, we hope that it can benefit more patients, So even if one or two workers come, we won't back down, since we're here, it's with sincerity that we're giving, so we hope that this place is blessed, a lot of love, a lot of goodness, as the foundation.
This is how love goes around, if everyone put in that little bit of love inside, many people can get help
While enjoying the snacks and listening to the volunteers sharing Tzu Chi's work in the international community, some of them also collected bamboo banks to support the good cause.
Worker Veerappan: Everybody also can, not only rich people (can help), you give ten cents also support
Worker, Diao Yu Lin: Save a little money, not a lot of money, you can.
The dialysis centre under construction is not only made up of bricks and mortar, but also has love and goodness as its cornerstone, and this love will continue to circulate.
