Great Love Student Care Centre is our second home

Tzu Chi Singapore Great Love Student Care Centre began its operation in 2017. Its quiet environment provides primary school students with a good place to study and rest after school. Besides serving vegetarian lunch and refreshments for the children, the teachers at the centre also check on the children's homework and ensure that they have practised their dictations. Other than helping to develop the habit of completing the day’s work on time, the practice also gives peace of mind to working parents. The teachers and staff are dedicated in making the centre the second home to the school children. Despite the fluctuating pandemic situation since 2020, the centre has done its best to support working parents in helping children catch up with their studies.

Student, Jayden Au: This is like a home to us because it has ample space for us to put things

This colonial black and white house was transformed into Tzu Chi Great Love Student Care Centre in 2017. Its quiet environment makes it a good learning place for students after school.

Student, Chow Sher Min: I think this Centre is a fun place to be because we get to eat nutritious food here and focus on finishing our homework.

Teachers carefully check through the children’s homework to make sure that they have completed their school assignments and learned their vocabularies for dictation, nurturing the good habit of completing the day’s work on time.

Student, Jayden Au: (Are the teachers fierce?) A bit. I like the teachers here. I get to learn words I don’t know just by asking the teachers.

Student, Too Sheng Le: You need to practice for a while and they will test you. Now I score 100 marks in all my dictations.

Parent, Sharika: The staff is very strict on the kids, at the same time they are kind also. Everything they take care of, for me as a working mother, it lessens my burden

Sometimes we would do handicraft or prepare plant-based food on our own to relax our mind

During the pandemic, the centre has lived up to its duties in caring for the students, giving parents peace of mind. Especially during the Home-Based Learning period, the centre has remained in operation to help children catch up with their learning progress.

Centre Manager, Lim Siew Lee: Medical staff who serve at the frontline cannot take leave, so their children must be at the student care centre from 730am to 7pm. Although the time has been extended, the children can do their homework properly, giving parents ease of mind.

Doing its best to serve as support for the parents, the student care centre is like a second home to children, allowing them to learn and grow up happily in a loving and kind environment.
