Do Not Panic! We are here for you through the Pandemic!
Beginning June 2021, Singapore has been on the path towards coexisting with COVID-19. With no precedent to follow, the only choice is to proceed cautiously and firmly. As economic activities gradually open up, community infection cases with asymptomatic or mild symptoms have also picked up. Besides Tzu Chi's long-term care recipients, a small number of staff, volunteers and family members have also been affected. During this time, Tzu Chi Singapore provided them with diversified and timely assistance to accompany them through the pandemic.
Our volunteers personally delivered the care packs that represent our care to doorsteps. From June this year, when the number of local infection cases started rising, Tzu Chi Singapore provided diversified and timely assistance to every staff, volunteer and their family members who were affected by the pandemic.
Susan Tan Volunteer Development Dept, staff:
We know that there are volunteers who need more help, we will work with the community to provide further care.
Loh Pooi Kuan Tzu Chi volunteer:
I like to cook colorful dishes, they look beautiful and you will feel happy eating them.
This meal is not just for Loh Pooi Kuan, but also meticulously prepared for Chong Mei Yee, who has just been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is recuperating at home in isolation.
Loh Pooi Kuan Tzu Chi volunteer:
(She) came here from a foreign country. With our care and love, (hopefully) she will get through this pandemic with a peace of mind.
Chong Mei Yee Tzu Chi volunteer:
She called and told me, you must be calm, don't need to panic. It gives me the feeling that she is there for me.
She seldom goes out and takes full hygiene precaution. Hence, being tested positive for COVID-19 made Chong Mei Yee very flustered. She came to Singapore from Malaysia alone to work, and the care of the volunteers during this period has calmed her.
Chong Mei Yee Tzu Chi volunteer:
It feels like going home for dinner. She is like my big sister, always caring for me, the feeling is very warm.
During the pandemic, Tzu Chi Singapore has also set up a care hotline to provide medical and hygiene information to accompany staff, volunteers and their family members through this period.
