Preschoolers Learn to Protect the Environment on Sports’ Day

Tzu Chi Singapore’s Great Love PreSchool held its 4th Sports’ Day at the Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre. Some 335 parents and their kids enjoyed the fun event together.
These lively kids overcame one challenge after another with the guidance of their parents. Although the event was held indoors, it did not dampen everyone’s enthusiasm.

The Sports’ Day also included environmental education, allowing the parents and children to learn to protect the environment.

For this event, we are trying to promote recycling. We want them to have environmental awareness. We promote recycling for them to learn that they should be good stewards for the environment. They need to take good care of the environment.

Justina Parent:
Actually, there are some items in our daily lives that can or cannot be recycled, but we do not know about them. So, through today’s activities, we can learn that.

In fact, the kids are quite familiar with the concept of environmental protection as their teachers will teach them that in class.

PreSchool’s student
Tang Xin Yan:
(Why do you want to care for Earth?) Because Mother Earth is ill
(How old are you?) Six years old (Until what age will you care for the Earth?)
Until I grow very big

Poh Bee Choo Parent :
In the past, after drinking a carton of milk, we’d throw the box away. And she’d say that we could cut a hole through it, rinse it with water and dry it, so that it could be recycled. She’d also tell us to drink less bottled water, as the plastic bottle will harm the planet.

This sport’s event promoted teamwork, allowed everyone to exercise their bodies, and was also a start for the parents and their kids to learn to live a green lifestyle.
