Tzu Chi’s Eldercare Centres are Officially Inaugurated

Tzu Chi Singapore has opened two eldercare centres, “SEEN”, in June this year. On 14th and 28th September, the two centres were officially inaugurated in the presence of the MPs of the districts in which they are located. SEEN aims to serve elderly residents living in the nearby studio apartments and housing estates by providing them with spaces where they can socialise with one another as well as participate in various interesting and healthy activities.

Tzu Chi’s SEEN@Bukit Batok is officially inaugurated in the presence of Bukit Batok MP Mr MuraliPillai and residents.

Bukit Batok MP, Mr Murali Pillai: What really struck me is that through all the programmes, there is an emphasis on values. It’s about loving Earth, loving the people, and serving each other.

The eldercare centre started operating in June. Its services and activities are welcomed by the residents living nearby. The residents even performed a sign language song, “One Family” at its inauguration ceremony.

As we support and cherish each other, we thank each other. Because we are one family, we share our responsibilities and lives with each other,

Such a heart-warming, family-like atmosphere can also be found in the other Tzu Chi eldercare centre in Jurong West. On 28th September, Chua Chu Kang MP Mr Yee Chia Hsing, together with other grassroots leaders and residents, gather here to witness an important moment.

Low Swee Seh, CEO of Tzu Chi Singapore: Recently, we have opened two eldercare centres. We hope that the residents (and our staff and volunteers) will get along like a family.

Chua Chu Kang MP, Mr Yee Chia Hsing: The services are very complete. There are exercises, karaoke, cooking, etc. We hope that the residents will benefit from these activities and come and join them more often.

Resident, Chew Siam Gek: This centre is finally inaugurated here. We can come here every day. Many people can come here and make friends and chat with one another. We can also exercise to keep fit.

Resident, Cheng Soon Chee: I really love this place. It’s especially good for us old folks, as we have a place to hang out. If we stay at home and no one takes us out, we may become ignorant and contract dementia.

The two Tzu Chi eldercare centres offer activities and programmes with  a focus on active aging and healthcare. They allow retired senior citizens to continually keep an active mindset and to live a relaxing and interesting life at old age.
